This is the first of 6 units of Cat 740 to be refurbished by our workshops.

We all feel that Steve and his team have really completed a first class job and all credit to them!!

Apart from the cosmetic paint and decals a huge amount of work was carried out to all bearings, hitch, hydraulics engine and cab much of this work you cannot see that has been done.

This Dumptruck will return to Torr Works Quarry to go back to work with some of the other fleet.

Good Job Well Done!!

KELSTON SPARKES PURCHASE FIRST FLEET OF NEW CAT 730C ARTICULATED TRUCKS

Finning News wrote the following article about us last week.

KELSTON SPARKES PURCHASE FIRST FLEET OF NEW CAT 730C ARTICULATED TRUCKS

Leading south west contractor Kelston Sparkes has purchased 3 new Cat® 730C articulated trucks, being the first customer in the UK to purchase the recently launched machines.

Having previously purchased their first Cat 740A and Cat 725A series machines in 2006, the recent purchase represents a major vote of confidence for the newly launched Cat 730C, that boasts higher productivity and lower cost.

Commenting on the deal, Kelston Sparkes partner, Rob Stark, said: "The Finning team introduced us to the latest Cat 730C at a demonstration event at the Peterlee factory proving ground, where we were able to see the equipment in action and test it for ourselves. As a main contractor we are interested in productivity, safety and fuel efficiency. We had a choice between the new Cat 725C and the Cat 730C for the applications we work in and felt that the 16% productivity differential with the new Cat 730C was a real selling point."

"The truck also has an automatic retarder and the change in transmission makes the operation a lot smoother. We compared the difference between the new unit and other competitor products and felt that Caterpillar had really made some inroads with the new machine. It has been significantly improved when compared to previous models and for us as contractors we were really pleased that both Finning and Caterpillar showed an interest and understanding of our business needs.

"There is nothing like enthusiasm to sell a good product and with the Finsight solution that we have also gone for, we feel confident in running the machines. We are also safe in the knowledge that one of the team at Finning is monitoring the performance of the whole fleet as it is essential we achieve the higher productivity capable with the Cat 730C"

Kelston Sparkes will take delivery of the UK's first Cat 730C fleet in March 2014.

Adding to the comments from Rob, Key account manager for Finning, Darren Bodio said: "The Cat 730C and sister model Cat 725C are game changers for us at Finning. We now have a product that is a leader in the industry and focused on the needs of our customer. It is made in the UK, designed and manufactured at Peterlee and has benefited from Finning customer input throughout its creation. This means we have a machine that is focused on meeting the needs of UK customers, comfortable for the operators and perfect for the jobsite."

Launched in January 2014 the new Cat 730C and Cat 725C are now available to UK customers.

On the 13th and 14th July, our colleague Terry O'Callaghan from Kelston Sparkes Group completed the 220 miles cycle challenge “Ian Meek - Let’s Cure Brain Tumours Bristol - Leeds Cycle Challenge”. Ian was a brain tumour patient and great supporter of BTRS.

Terry and his team raised £4,161.23 for Brain Tumour Research cycling from Bristol to Leeds over two days in what was extremely hot weather!

From Kelston Sparkes we want to say congratulations to Terry and his team for completing this difficult yet extremely worthwhile challenge.
